DOUBLE TROUBLE
TWO ELDERLY HOMEOWNERS NEED HELP
We responded to separate requests for help from two elderly homeowners in Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg. In both instances, the service we provided was limited in terms of building repairs but essential to help them maintain their households.
WHAT OUR VOLUNTEERS ACCOMPLISHED
In Hoffman Estates, we realized that the homeowner, an 84-year old woman, needed assistance in dealing with her insurance company. There was damage to her home that should have been covered by her homeowner's insurance policy. We communicated on her behalf, obtained coverage, and secured contractors who replaced her roof and renovated her family room.
In Schaumburg, we identified that the elderly homeowner, an 89-year old woman, quickly needed to replace her 40-year old washer and dryer, appliances essential for her welfare. An appliance dealer friendly to our mission sold us new appliances for his cost—which we then installed at no cost to the homeowner.
